Here is the latest iteration of my first project. The assignment is to do a self-portrait completely drawn in photoshop. I chose not to do the same ol' photoshop self-portrait because I wanted to use the assignment's freedom to do some art that actually means something to me. The landscape is a loose representation of this place I'm living in. The colors are sampled directly from pictures I took looking down at the canyon. I haven't quite decided if this is done yet, but I think I could turn in the assignment with it in this state.

Tomorrow I drive to Santa Barbara to meet John.

Hey everyone, I thought it would be interesting to post a couple of 'pre-Art Center' drawings before my first class. These are just graphite, and I apologize for the poor picture quality.

Arrival

I've kept up with all of you pretty well over the phone since I left, so this is mostly to post pictures of my room.

After 1600 long, dry miles through the country and snow my dad and I finally made it here to Glendale, California. We spent two long days getting my room and situation set up, and here it is how it looks as of about 2 pm today:

That's the inside, now for the back:

So that's my humble abode for the next few months. The crack of dawn and cold air wake me every morning. It is pretty different than what I'm used to. The weather and the roads don't make any sense in this state. I entertain myself by reading or drawing when I'm not taking care of those little tasks everyone has to do to live. It's odd that the fast pace of life out here is normal for everyone here.

Classes start tuesday. I'll update again this weekend.

PS - Here are pictures of the snow my dad and I drove through in New Mexico. And a picture of me in case you're worried.

This is a test.

Before totally immersing myself in a new environment, let's see if I can make this artblog work at home. This blog will be updated (hopefully) every weekend with some samples of work done for my classes during that week. Maybe it'll even have something useful to say besides reassuring you all that I am still alive and well. Not that I won't be calling and telling you that regularly, of course.

For photographing, I will need a digital camera. Hopefully the school will have them available to check out for all students. Hopefully I won't have to donate a saturday to just learning how to use one. Hopefully I won't have to re-organize my archived art several times before finding a system that really works.

This sentence is RED.

This sentence is not red.

Neat.

This is all pretty useless text. Let me see if I can't spice it up a bit with some ART!

Hmm....

Damn. That was more difficult than I was hoping. Oh well.

It is my sincerest desire that you enjoyed browsing this first post on my new blog. Too bad the word 'blog' puts a foul taste in my mouth. If you can think of a better term for it, please tell me.
